Why We Created the Home Education & SEN Event in Kent

Finding the right support for your child shouldn't feel like a full-time job.

Yet for so many families, it can.

One website leads to another. One recommendation leads somewhere else. Then you discover a brilliant service, specialist or resource and find yourself thinking:

“Why didn't I know about this before?”

That is exactly where the idea for our Home Education & SEN Event began.

What if families could discover home education support, SEN specialists, activities, resources and services — all in one welcoming place?

On Friday 25th September 2026, Honeycomb Collective Events will bring families and professionals together at The Orchards, East Malling, Kent, for a day dedicated to home education, SEN, support, learning and possibilities.

And the event is completely FREE for families to attend.

Why This Event Is Personal to Us

Honeycomb Collective Events was created by Deborah and Georgina, and our own experiences are a huge part of why this event matters to us.

Georgina home educated two of her children and understands both the opportunities and challenges that can come with taking a different educational path. She has also worked with many families with children with additional needs.

Deborah is a qualified teacher who now focuses on one-to-one tutoring, including supporting children who struggle within a traditional school environment or are unable to attend school.

We've both seen how hard parents work to find the right person, the right approach and the right support for their child.

We wanted to make that search a little easier.

Bringing Support Together

There are some wonderful specialists, tutors, professionals, activities, services and resources available across Kent and the surrounding areas.

But families don't always know they're there.

That's why we're working to bring a carefully selected and varied mix together under one roof.

We want families to be able to meet people face-to-face, ask questions, explore different possibilities and discover support they may never have come across before.

You might arrive looking for one thing and leave having discovered something completely unexpected.

Who Is the Event For?

Home education doesn't look the same for every family.

Some families choose it from the beginning. Others find themselves considering it because their child is struggling at school or needs a different approach.

And many children with SEN remain in school while their families look for additional support, resources or activities outside the classroom.

So we want to make one thing very clear:

You don't have to be home educating to come to our event.

Whether you're an experienced home-educating family, just beginning to explore your options, supporting a child with SEN or simply looking for something different — you are very welcome.

More Than Just Stands in a Room

We want our event to be about conversations, ideas, discoveries and connections — not simply collecting leaflets.

Families will be able to explore exhibitors covering different areas of education, SEN, wellbeing, activities, resources and specialist support, with opportunities to hear from exhibitors through talks during the day too.

Children are welcome, and we're working hard to create a day that feels friendly, relaxed and genuinely useful.

Because education isn't one-size-fits-all — and neither are children.

And This Is Just the Beginning…

As September gets closer, we're incredibly excited to see the event taking shape.

We're speaking to some wonderful businesses and professionals, and generous businesses are already supporting our event with prizes for our charity raffle.

Our chosen charity is Dandelion Time, a wonderful Kent charity, and the raffle on the day will help raise money to support their work.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing our exhibitors, revealing raffle prizes and sharing much more about what you can expect on the day.
